Comodo SSL BuyerTrust Guarantees Online Purchases Up to $25,000
Jersey City, NJ, April 06, 2010 – The Comodo Companies, leaders in cybersecurity, announce a new program to increase trust in online shopping. Comodo BuyerTrust 30 Day Purchase Protection brings US e-commerce merchants and shoppers together, creating a worry-free shopping experience by protecting online purchases for up to $25,000.
The recently-released US Federal Cybercrime Complaint Clearinghouse (IC3) annual report, based on complaints filed with law enforcement agencies in 2009, suggests that a growing number of shoppers are cheated in online transactions. The dollar amount involved in all complaints nearly doubled from 2008 ($264.6 million) to 2009 ($559.7 million.)
The IC3 report lists the top five offenses as non-delivered merchandise and/or payment (19.3% of complaints), identity theft (14.1%) credit card fraud (10.4%), auction fraud (10.3%) and computer fraud (7.9%). Statistics such as this underscore the reason why consumers are increasingly skeptical about trusting online merchants, particularly ones they do not have a long history with.
BuyerTrust is a new way for US online merchants to overcome online shopping’s risky reputation. Merchants offering the BuyerTrust program place a BuyerTrust logo on their website. The logo declares to shoppers that purchases at their online stores are protected by the BuyerTrust 30 Day Purchase Protection program, which guarantees that the shopper will receive the item that they order. They promise safe shopping experiences with secure checkouts, and, if necessary, easy claims filing and resolution.
When online shoppers see the BuyerTrust logo, they know that the merchant meets BuyerTrust’s mandatory quality level, including ID checks, financial verification standards and terms of sale. The BuyerTrust logo also indicates superb network security. In order to become a BuyerTrust Merchant, a merchant must hold an Organizational Validation (OV) SSL certificate.
Even if a shopper builds trust in an online merchant, like every Internet user he or she should still be concerned about the merchant’s network security. A network security breach could mean that a third party steals the shopper’s confidential information. BuyerTrust merchants add Comodo technology to their sites, dramatically improving defenses against hackers and thieves.
Online and off, businesses occasionally encounter disputes. In the case of a dispute, Comodo works with both the buyer and seller to resolve the issue. If for some reason a resolution is not possible then BuyerTrust reimburses the customer for the full amount of the covered purchase, up to $25,000.
Shoppers benefit from knowing that they can purchase at BuyerTrust sites, protected against identity theft, fraud, and poor service. Merchants who display the BuyerTrust logo encourage their visitors to enjoy the ease of online shopping, confident that they and their customers are protected, enabling higher conversion rates and customer satisfaction.
