Media Alert: Comodo Senior Research Scientist and NATO Ambassador Kenneth Geers to Speak at CERT.LV’s Cyberchess 2016
RIGA, Latvia– Oct. 5, 2016 — Helping researchers dissect and defend against the advanced persistent threats (APTs) used in cyberwar is the focus of an upcoming session at Cyberchess 2016, hosted by CERT.LV and held as part of European Cyber Security Month. Comodo, a global innovator and developer of cybersecurity solutions, today announced that Senior Research Scientist Kenneth Geers will present the topic on Thursday, Oct. 6 in Riga, Latvia.
From Chechnya to Estonia, Ukraine and the 2016 U.S. presidential election, computer hacking has become a strategic weapon in international relations. Soldiers and spies read your email, deface your websites and hack your critical infrastructure.
As a threat expert and NATO Cooperative Cyber Defense Centre of Excellence Ambassador, Geers will lead a session entitled “Hacking the Hackers: Strategic Analysis in Cyber Defense,” examining how the line between “cyberwar” and traditional war is disappearing fast.
“Despite their sharp teeth, APTs have enormous, bureaucratic bodies that you can dissect and eat, one byte at a time. As a cyber defense researcher, you are the commander of your own corner of cyberspace, with access to more math, science, reason, logic and creativity than any government. So gird your loins, gather your comrades, and slay the APT,” Geers said, summarizing his session.
At Cyberchess 2016, Geers will join a prestigious list of European government representatives, threat researchers and academics. Other notable speakers will include Raimonds Bergmanis, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Latvia, Sintija Deruma, CISM, President of ISACA Latvia chapter, Baiba Kaškina, CERT.LV General Manager, and Ieva Ilves, Head of the National Cybersecurity Policy Coordination Section, Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Latvia.
