MEDIA ALERT: COMODO SENIOR RESEARCH SCIENTIST AND NATO AMBASSADOR KENNETH GEERS TO MODERATE PANEL AT CYCON U.S. 2016
Session to explore the challenges of weaving cybersecurity into national security worldwide
WASHINGTON, D.C.– Oct. 21, 2016 — The ever-increasing challenges of effectively weaving cybersecurity into national security plans across the globe will be addressed in an upcoming session at CyCon U.S. 2016, hosted by the Army Cyber Institute at West Point and NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Center of Excellence. Comodo, a global innovator and developer of cybersecurity solutions- including SSL certs, virus removal tools, RMM software etc- today announced that Senior Research Scientist Kenneth Geers will moderate a panel on the topic, Friday, Oct. 21 in Washington, D.C.
The consequences of actions in cyberspace have moved beyond science fiction into an increasingly relevant area of national security studies. Today, the number of globally connected devices stands at around 17 billion—about 50 percent of the world’s population. Within the decades to come, it is expected that tens of billions more devices and individuals will become connected. How we incorporate cybersecurity into national security is only going to grow in importance. Relevant studies have commonly addressed questions of deterrence, coercion, offensive and defensive capabilities, proportionality and more.
As a cyberwar expert and NATO ambassador, Geers will lead a session entitled “International Security: Cyber and the Future of the Nations,” which will address the current state of cyber within the broader landscape of national security and provide insights into what the future holds.
At CyCon U.S. 2016, Geers will join a high-status list of government representatives, threat researchers and academics. Other notable speakers will include Siim Alatalu, head of International Relations, NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence; Fernando Maymi, deputy director of Army Cyber Institute at West Point; and Tonya Ugoretz, director of the Cyber Threat Intelligence Integration Center.
At Cyberchess 2016, Geers will join a prestigious list of European government representatives, threat researchers and academics. Other notable speakers will include Raimonds Bergmanis, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Latvia, Sintija Deruma, CISM, President of ISACA Latvia chapter, Baiba Kaškina, CERT.LV General Manager, and Ieva Ilves, Head of the National Cybersecurity Policy Coordination Section, Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Latvia.
