Free, user-friendly product offers customizable feature set for browsers and any ‘regular’ application to fit a range of cybersecurity needs
CLIFTON, N.J.– Jan. 17, 2017 — Comodo, a global innovator and developer of cybersecurity solutions and the worldwide leader in digital certificates, has released its latest free protection option, Comodo Internet Security (CIS) 10, upgraded to offer a powerful shield that serves as a buffer against malware attacks. This unique tool provides extreme security for online banking and shopping for browsers and any ‘regular’ application through features including Secure Shopping, Unblock Application and Virtual Desktop, which can be easily customized to suit a range of cybersecurity needs.
As a core element of CIS, seamless protection is enhanced by Comodo’s user-friendly, dependable and industry-leading default-deny security posture, which provides a trust verdict on 100 percent of files, completely eliminating false positives and blocking zero-day attacks.
Secure Shopping enables users to open online banking and shopping websites in a highly secure environment, which cannot be hacked, tracked or viewed by internet thieves or by malware. For example, this feature will:
- Isolate browsing sessions from all other processes on the PC
- Prevent key-loggers from recording keystrokes
- Warn users if there is a remote connection to their computer
- Stop hackers and malware from taking screenshots of sessions
- Detect fake SSL certificates to prevent man-in-the-middle attacks
Another important aspect of the new release is the Unblock Application capability. As many internet users experience, there are times when attempting to run a program, the security software puts up a roadblock and stops it. Maybe it is the firewall or the
antivirus…but if they are certain they want to proceed, the Unblock Application allows the user to quickly and easily release programs from the security component that has blocked them.
Virtual Desktop is another popular feature, which has the ability to virtualize an operating system. It creates a safe play zone for children and other users. As they download games or run applications, they might change the wallpaper, font sizes or other settings, and could easily pick up viruses as they surf the web. With the Virtual Desktop feature, it is possible to reset the inside content, eliminating any malicious application or files. With the help of sandbox technology, the device will function smoothly as applications run in a virtual environment, locking the harmful application or file and all threats into a virtual “jail.”
CIS is an inherently free product. All features are provided at zero cost. Users only have to pay for completely optional services. CIS Pro offers live support with Geekbuddy, and CIS Complete provides a cloud backup service, for example.
“Our focus in developing CIS was to increase simplicity, usability and consistency while creating seamless protection through Comodo’s unique automatic containment technology,” said Egemen Tas, senior vice president of product engineering, Comodo. “Security and protection are the cornerstones of CIS, but making our product accessible is equally important. We believe that security is a right not a luxury and are taking steps to make the entire internet more trustworthy every day.”
